No one is born a good citizen, no country is born democratic. These processes continue to develop throughout life. Young people should be included in this process from birth.

Kofi Annan

There are many different models of democratic government around the world, so sometimes it is easier to understand what the idea of democracy is than what it is. What is democracy? How often do we think about it? Is the meaning of democracy understood in the same way in all countries of the world? Do the president of the state, a worker, a school teacher or a convict, the youth or the older generation think the same about democracy? And in general, is the definition of democracy unambiguous? Why talk about democracy? What does it give us? How does democracy work in real life? How to use its tools? And do we need it?

On September 16-20, 2024, the department organizes thematic lectures and seminars as part of the “Week of Democracy and Democratic Governance” before the International Day of Democracy (September 15).

Everyone is welcome!
