Interdepartmental seminar of the department of accounting, analysis and control and the department of digital economy and business analytics on the use of information technologies for accounting, analysis and financial investigations

On May 22, 2023, an interdepartmental scientific and methodological online seminar “Using information technologies for accounting, analysis and financial investigations” was held, which took place at a joint meeting of the departments of accounting, analysis and control and digital economy and business analytics of the Faculty of Financial Management and Business of Lviv Ivan Franko National University.

The participants of the scientific and methodical seminar were:

  • dean of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management, associate professor Andrii STASISHYN, who in his welcoming speech emphasized the relevance of the topic of the interdepartmental meeting, key aspects of the use of information technologies in accounting, analysis and financial investigations, in particular, to identify trends, anomalies, risks and opportunities for optimizing financial processes, tracking unusual financial transactions, financial frauds or deviations from the norm, and also noted the positive result of the cooperation of both departments;
  • Acting the head of the Department of accounting, analysis, and control, Professor Yevhen ROMANIV, professors and associate professors of the department, the head of which emphasized the importance of using information technologies in detecting fraud and financial crimes. After all, they allow you to automate the process of collecting financial data from various sources, such as bank statements, financial reports, electronic payment systems, etc. This allows investigators to quickly gather a large amount of information and analyze it to detect illegal or suspicious activity;
  • the head of the department of digital economy and business analytics, professor Iryna SHEVCHUK and the teaching staff of the department. As a guarantor of the master’s training program, Iryna SHEVCHUK presented the updated educational and professional programs “Information Technologies in Business” for bachelor’s and master’s level students in a report on the topic “Formation of information and technological competences in students of higher education in economic specialties: from theory to practice” higher education with an emphasis on updated competencies and programmatic learning outcomes that will enable higher education graduates to understand and analyze complex relationships and identify potential signs of fraud or illegal activities in the digital environment, financial illegal transactions.

Active participants of the online seminar were students of the educational and professional programs “Information Technologies in Business” and “Accounting, Analysis and Financial Investigations” at the bachelor’s and master’s levels of higher education.

The relevance of the topic of the scientific and methodical seminar was revealed in the reports of the participants. In particular:

  • The guarantor of the educational program of the bachelor’s level of higher education “Accounting, analysis and financial investigations” Svitlana PRYIMAK presented the report “A competent approach in the formation of specialists in accounting, analysis and financial investigations” and the attention of the seminar participants was focused on the competencies of the students of higher education in such an educational program, which allow you to effectively use existing solutions for automating the processes of accounting, storage and processing of financial data in practical activities, as well as a wide range of tools for analyzing this data.
  • Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics Orest MYSHYSHYN through his report “Using information technologies for modeling budget offenses and financial investigations” analyzed and visualized large volumes of data using the Tableau interactive business analytics system in order to increase the effectiveness of research in the field of budget offenses and financial investigations.
  • Lyubov SHEVTSIV, associate professor of the department of accounting, analysis and control, presented the audience with a report “Development of digital transformations and their impact on accounting and taxation” and thoroughly disclosed the digital trends underlying digital transformations, as well as presented a study of the use of digital technologies in Ukraine.
  • The lecturer of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics, Oksana VASKIV, presented the report “Systems of complex automation of business processes”, who presented the main business processes subject to automation – accounting and tax accounting, personnel accounting and payroll, management accounting, etc. At the same time, the comprehensive business automation systems offered by the market today were considered, namely: Bjet – a comprehensive cloud-based accounting automation solution, Business Central – a business management solution for small and medium-sized organizations that automates and optimizes business processes, OrgLinker – a business management system for Ukraine, jSolutions – a cloud system for automating management and accounting tasks of the enterprise, etc.

 

  • Master Vladyslav KROKHMALNYI delivered a report “Risks of using information technologies in accounting for small and medium-sized businesses”, in which he outlined the types of risks, namely, cyber security, technology failures, data leakage, etc., that occur when implementing information technologies in accounting for small and medium business.
