Course description

“Economic Modeling” is one of the main professionally oriented courses that completes fundamental training. It forms a specialist as an economist-analyst, a researcher-scientist, a teacher for work in the field of organizational management and economics. Such economists-analysts possess modern mathematical methods of analysis and forecasting of economic situations using the latest information technologies, methods of managing economic objects in market conditions, and are able to organize work on the computerization of these objects.

The purpose of the educational discipline

The purpose of this discipline is to give an opportunity to future specialists who have chosen the application of mathematical methods in economics as their profession, to learn how to apply the methodology, techniques and tools of economic-mathematical modeling in theoretical research and to use the acquired knowledge in practical activities. At the same time, it is important to help them establish themselves in the leading role of mathematical modeling in economic science and business practice, synthesis of economic and mathematical knowledge.

The subject of the academic discipline

The subject of the educational discipline is the tools of economic and mathematical modeling: mathematical models of economic objects, processes, situations; methods and algorithms for conducting model experiments; methodology of mathematical modeling of economic and financial systems.

Object of educational discipline

The object of study of the educational discipline is the economy, its subdivisions and the processes that take place in them, specific models, methods and algorithms are considered in connection with the relevant problems of analysis and management in economic and financial systems.

Main tasks

The task is to teach students to apply mathematical modeling methods to solve applied economic problems, to familiarize them with the main approaches to economic modeling.

The main tasks of the discipline is:

  • assimilation by students of the theoretical foundations of building economic and mathematical models and methods of conducting model experiments;
  • formation of students with a sufficient understanding of the formation, functioning and development of management decision-making support systems;
  • acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills in the field of building model systems and algorithms for finding optimal management solutions;
  • acquisition of practical skills in the use and adaptation of modern tools for optimizing management decisions in a specific subject area.

The place of the educational discipline in the structural and logical scheme

The discipline “Economic Modeling” is interconnected with such disciplines as ” Macroeconomics”, “Microeconomics”, “Mathematics for economists”, “Probability theory and mathematical statistics”, “Operations research”.

The acquired knowledge can be used in practical activities in the management of economic, production and financial systems.

Requirements for knowledge and skills

The study of an academic discipline involves the achievement of such a qualification level of training of the student, for which he must:

a) know:

  • how to create and use methods of economic and mathematical modeling;
  • how to create and organize work to ensure the methods of optimal management of economic, production and financial systems;
  • what organizational problems arise in connection with the use of economic-mathematical modeling methodology;
  • how to interpret and use the information obtained as a result of conducting model experiments.

b) to be able to

  • apply mathematical modeling methods to solve applied economic problems:
  • give an interpretation of the results obtained as a result of economic modeling;
  • to make scientifically based decisions on economic problems based on quantitative information.
