Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, students of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv have been actively involved in various volunteer initiatives, including making trench candles and weaving camouflage nets.

The organizer of the location and the coordinator of the process of making trench candles is the Student Government of the University. Students find materials for their creation independently, sometimes in cooperation with other organizations and institutions. For example, recently the students managed to obtain church wax candles, which will later be used to form trench candles.

Due to difficulties in finding new premises and materials for weaving nets, the Student Government of the University united with the volunteer center in the Lviv Regional Library for youth, which has been actively functioning since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Students majoring in “Accounting and Taxation” actively participated in this charity project, realizing that trench candles are very useful for soldiers at the front. They burn for a long time and give more heat than ordinary candles. You can warm your hands by the trench candle, and heat food on it. In addition, they are safe to use, give enough light to navigate in the trenches and at the same time not unmask the position.

Anyone can join in making trench candles and weaving camouflage nets, as well as collecting materials. You can get more information about volunteer initiatives on the pages of the Student Government of Lviv University in social networks.
