On November 9, 2022, as part of the international educational project “Educational Bridge Chemnitz-Lviv” of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the Technical University of Chemnitz (Germany), at the invitation of the Department of Financial Management of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management, with the support of the Department of International Relations, an open a lecture by Professor Sebastian Gechert, Head of the Department of Macroeconomics at the Chemnitz University of Technology, on the topic “Effectiveness of the influence of taxes and public expenditures on economic growth”.

During the lecture, students of the bachelor’s and master’s levels of higher education delved into the theoretical foundations of determining the multiplier of public expenditures, the multiplier of taxes and the “Keynesian cross” in the short- and long-term perspective. In the second part of the lecture, the empirical data of the meta-analysis were presented, which demonstrated the practical calculation of the value of such multipliers and their change depending on the stage of the economic cycle. This eventually led to conclusions – recommendations for adjusting public policy in the sphere of spending and taxation in order to mitigate recessions, economic downturns and stimulate economic growth. The lecturer’s speech was accompanied by interesting presentation material and raised many questions regarding the use of the analyzed models in Ukrainian realities.

This is the first joint event with Professor Sebastian Gehert, colleagues from the Department of Macroeconomics of the Technical University and the teaching staff of the Department of Financial Management of LNU. Ivan Franko. The next stage is the internship of teachers and students of the educational program “Finance, Customs and Tax Affairs” at the Technical University of Chemnitz and the discussion, development and updating of academic disciplines, joint scientific research.

The staff of the department and the student community of the faculty are grateful to the guest speaker for an extremely interesting lecture, thorough research, answers to questions, as well as for the support we receive from Chemnitz Technical University. Even the logo of our partner university, which became blue-yellow after February 24, 2022, demonstrates the sincere attitude of German colleagues and the desire to help Ukraine, particularly in educational initiatives.
