“What would your soft skills do if hard skills did not exist, and what would public and personnel management look like if they lost touch with practice?” That is why the economics and public administration department, career development, and cooperation with business at the University prepared this intensive.

On February 21-24, the Department of Economics and Public Administration of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management of Franko University, together with the Public Council under the Personnel Department of the Lviv City Council, organised an intensive course, “SMART HR”, for students of higher education. This event was aimed at students of the Educational Program “Personnel Management in Public Authorities and Business Structures,” majoring in Public Management and Administration. However, the format and topic of the event became interesting for almost 60 students (10 different educational programs) from 5 universities in Lviv.

What is the importance of this intensive?

  • An opportunity to discuss practical cases with the best specialists in the HR field and to improve your hard skills.
  • Present yourself to a potential employer.
  • Get to know a student just as cool as you (students from 5 Lviv universities from 10 different educational programs were interested in our event).

We want to discuss what we did during these four days briefly.

Andriy Gukalyuk and Maryana Ivashina signed the Memorandum of Cooperation between the University and the Civic Council.

Andriy Gukalyuk (first vice-rector), Andriі Stasyshyn (dean of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management), Halyna Kaplenko (head of the Department of Economics and Public Administration), Iryna Snovydovych (head of the career development and business cooperation department of LNU) discussed with Maryana Ivashyna (chair of the Public Council, head of the training and development service of JSC “Halychpharm”), Oksana Abramenko, Halyna Tsvirkun (HR director of the international postal and logistics holding company Meest) areas of cooperation with stakeholders, updating of the educational program “Personnel management in public authorities and business structures” training of bachelors and masters.

A new format that we have planned to make students stay awake during lectures, but work towards directing their personality to achieve their goals……

Oksana Abramenko shared with the participant information about the modern labour market and the challenges and opportunities it offers to young people.

Maryana Ivashina captivated the course participants with her sincerity and love for her profession and work. She emphasised that it is important to love people and everything you do in HR. The course participants joined the work on the practical cases Ms Maryana offered them, and their solutions were quite creative and satisfactory.

Bohdana Yaremchuk is a professional lawyer, so she emphasised that knowledge of legislation in the field of HR is quite essential; and also spoke in great detail about legislation in state authorities and shared practical examples from her professional experience.

Ludmyla Gurova talked with the participants about labour legislation in business and the challenges that the personnel service and the HR field are experiencing today.

Kateryna Knyzhitska spoke in detail about the selection of personnel in the company. The participants were interested because, at this meeting, they had the opportunity to chat and learn how recruiters “scan and study” a candidate to prepare for their first interview successfully.

Over two days, Halyna Tsvirkun shared information and practical examples of personnel evaluation in large companies. She also talked about the Salary rules method, or management through material motivation. The case about situational leadership in the company was enjoyable. Mrs Halyna sincerely and frankly told and motivated the participants about how it is worth constantly researching and studying people and the field in which you work.

Oksana Shakhova worked with the course participants in the direction of personnel adaptation. In particular, the primary goals and tasks of transformation and the main stages of introducing an employee to the company were studied.

At the end of the course, all active participants received certificates.

The course mentors also received thanks from the rector, Volodymyr Melnyk, for the fruitful cooperation with Lviv University, the organisation, and for conducting the intensive SMART HR course.

Significantly, the course was completed on February 24, the anniversary of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation and the beginning of the war, because with such events and the constant development of modern education and studentship, we are bringing our victory closer. We are also training young specialists who will professionally rebuild our Ukraine.
