The three-day intensive HIVE Startup School was held on September 26-28. It is a project implemented by Ivan Franko Lviv National University, Bukovyna State Medical University, Dnipro Polytechnic National Technical University, as well as partners Ukrainian Startup Fund, Sigma Software Group, and Sigma Software Labs. In general, the idea was implemented within the framework of the international project “HEI Innovation for Knowledge Intensive Entrepreneurship”, which Lviv University joined in March 2023, and whose goal is to develop a startup culture among students.
Within the framework of the HIVE Startup School, the participants had the opportunity to hear about new opportunities in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship, as well as see live practical business cases and visit the Sigma Software office on an interesting tour.
It was a great opportunity for young people to learn more about entrepreneurship and realize that creating something unique and getting funding for it is quite possible.
The speaker of the first day of the event was Olha Sych, associate professor of the Department of Financial Management. The lecture was about business development infrastructure and introduced the audience to the modern ecosystem of entrepreneurship support in Ukraine. School participants learned a lot of interesting things about Diya’s state platforms. Business, Effective Regulation Platform, Enterprise Development Fund, National Small and Medium Business Platform and others. The audience’s attention was drawn to the possibilities of preferential lending and grant financing of business with the support of national funds and international financial organizations. At the end, school participants took part in an interactive survey and noted the role of various institutions in supporting entrepreneurship in Ukraine. Among the participants of the event, who participated offline and online on the Teams platform, there were bachelor’s degree holders of the “Financial Management” OPP and the “Finance, Customs and Tax Affairs” OPP. Such intensives allow student youth to acquire new knowledge, form entrepreneurial skills and boldly implement innovative ideas by creating startups and starting their own businesses.
It is worth noting that the department of financial management teaches a number of university-wide subjects of free choice that form entrepreneurial skills in future specialists. In particular, the discipline “Creating your own business”, developed by associate professor Daria Popovych, has enjoyed consistent success among students of Lviv National University for the seventh year in a row. Business skills are deepened in the discipline “Fundamentals of personal and family budget management”, developed by assistant professor Oksana Zahidna, “Cryptocurrencies and virtual exchanges” (author of the course, assistant professor Lyubov Petyk) and “Management of small business finances” (author of the course – assistant professor Iryna Yasinovska).
