Today, April 18, 2023, in honor of the victims of the genocide of the Crimean Tatar people, the teachers of the Department of Public Administration and Business Management of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management of the Ivan Franko National University held a lecture-dispute on the topic: “Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians. Side by side in the fight for the right to the Motherland”

Assistant professor of the department Reshot O.A. in her speech she emphasized that during the war with Nazism, the Stalinist regime committed the crime of genocide against the entire nation. According to the principle of “collective responsibility”, the entire Crimean Tatar people were expelled from their homeland in two days in 1944. After the deportation of Crimean Tatars, their material and spiritual cultural heritage was destroyed in Crimea: all movable and immovable property, all food stocks were confiscated; 112 personal book collections, 867 libraries, schools were liquidated; closed mosques; thousands of historical place names were changed, etc.

During the discussion and debate about the difficult historical times, the teachers of the department noted that even now, in the conditions of a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, new challenges arise. This concerns the newly occupied territories in Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, where many Crimean Tatars moved after the beginning of the temporary occupation of Crimea.

The pain of the Crimean Tatar people is our common pain! We will never forget or forgive the crimes of the Soviet regime. We believe that historical justice will be restored, that Ukraine will become free and the Crimeans will have full rights to manage their historical territory.
