Lecture by Professor Sebastian Gechert from Chemnitz University of Technology within the international project “Chemnitz-Lviv Learning Bridge.”

Addicted to the Days of Science, on May 25, 2023, as part of the international educational project “Education Bridge Chemnitz-Lviv” of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the Technical University of Chemnitz (Germany), an open lecture was held at the invitation of the Department of Financial Management with the support of the International Office by Professor Sebastian Gechert, Head of the Department of Macroeconomics at the Technical University of Chemnitz on the topic: “The Tax System of Germany”.

During the lecture, bachelor’s degree holders of higher education had the opportunity to delve into the historical features of the German tax system, the definition of the total tax burden and its components. In addition, the listeners learned about the distribution of the tax burden depending on the income level of German citizens and about the most common challenges facing the tax systems of the EU countries. Prof. S. Gechert answered questions about the taxation of student youth, the specifics of mandatory social insurance contributions and the problems of tax avoidance in Germany. An exciting presentation material containing comparative statistical data accompanied the lecturer’s speech.

The joint event with Professor Sebastian Gechert and the teaching staff of the Department of Financial Management is a continuation of fruitful cooperation, which was preceded by open lectures and scientific seminars, internships of teachers and students of the educational program “Finance, Customs and Taxation” at the Technical University of Chemnitz.

The department staff and student community are grateful to the guest speaker for an exciting lecture, thorough research, and answers to questions. Such meetings increase students’ awareness of the financial systems of European countries and form new competencies for future specialists in the field of finance.

  In the end, Prof. S. Gechert invited first (bachelor) level students to actively participate in programs funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and to visit the Technical University of Chemnitz as part of an educational internship.
