Round table “War economy: new expectations from IT business and digital transformation of the national economy”

As part of events for Ivan Franko Lviv National University Day on October 20, 2022, the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics held a round table on the topic: “War economy: new expectations from IT business and digital transformation of the national economy”. The event brought together more than 40 participants who represented the scientific and pedagogical community, students of the first (bachelor’s) and second (master’s) levels of higher education under the OP “Information technologies in business” specialty 051 “Economics”, IT business.

Andriy Stasyshyn, dean of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management, addressed the participants of the round table with a welcoming speech and noted the importance of the development of the national economy in war conditions, the diversification of tools for the digitalization of economic processes and the forms of the most effective use of the opportunities of digital transformation of business because the ability to fill the budgets of all will depend on this levels, which will allow not only to preserve the economic resources of Ukraine but also to provide adequate support to the Armed Forces, to ensure full-fledged social protection of the population.

The head of the department of the digital economy and business analytics, Iryna Shevchuk, focused the attention of the participants on the losses of Ukraine as a result of full-scale military aggression by the Russian Federation, and also noted the growing importance and contribution of the IT sphere to the development of society and the country.

At the round table, the associate professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics, Senior Software Engineer at UKEESS Software House Bohdan Deputat, who was also the moderator of the event, presented his own experience in forming the professional image of an IT specialist.

The work of the round table was attended by 1st-year master’s students under the OP “Information technologies in business” specialty 051 “Economics”:

  • Viktor Didenchuk, co-founder of the IT company Mindecs;
  • Andriy Maryskevych, Senior Software Engineer/Team Lead в ІТ-компанії GlobalLogic;
  • Andriy Sushko, Data Engineer в OpsGuru, and Interview Engineer в Karat;
  • Nazar Uniyat, Java Software Engineer in an IT company SPD-Ukraine.

They made reports that touched on such issues as:

  • The main risks, challenges, and opportunities for IT companies in 2022. How does an IT business work in wartime?
  • The War Economy: The IT Generation and Other Opportunities for Beginners.
  • Anticipated global recession: challenges and opportunities in IT.
  • Ukrainian IT during the war: fintech market, migration of specialists, functioning in new realities of SPD-Ukraine

The teachers of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics, students took an active part in the discussion and discussion of the actual problems of the digital transformation of the national economy, the work of IT business in the conditions of war, the acquisition of the necessary IT competences, and the possibilities of building a career in the IT sphere.
