Improving pedagogical skills by teachers of the Department of Financial Management

On March 17 – 18, 2021 lecturers of the Department of Financial Management, Faculty of Financial Management and Business, Doctor of Economics, Prof. Sytnyk N.S., Doctor of Economics, Prof. Vatamanyuk-Zelinska U.Z., Doctor of Economics, Assoc. Shushkova Yu.V., Ph.D., Assoc. Dubyk V.Ya., Ph.D., Assoc. Zakhidna O.R., Ph.D., Assoc. Petyk L.O., Ph.D., Assoc. Popovych D.V., Ph.D., Assoc. Yasinovska I.F. and Ph.D. Kruglyakova V.V. took part in the online forum “Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education”.

The Forum “Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education” is the second forum within the Higher Education Teaching Improvement Program of Ukraine, implemented by the British Council in Ukraine in partnership with the Institute of Higher Education of the NAPS of Ukraine, Advance HE (UK) and supported by the Ministry of Education and Science. Ukraine and the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education from 2019.

Teachers of the department had the opportunity to hear the views of rectors, vice-rectors, heads of departments, research and teaching staff of higher education institutions and experts who are actively involved in improving the teaching and professional development of university teachers on the following key issues of the Forum:

  • Professional development of teachers of higher education institutions.
  • Transformation of teaching in today’s conditions: challenges and opportunities.
  • Student-oriented teaching and its features.
  • Effective interaction between students and teachers.
  • The experience of Great Britain and Ukraine in improving teaching in higher education.

In particular, during the first day of the Forum, teachers of the department heard many interesting views on improving teaching and learning from representatives of the British agency Advance HE, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education and Ukrainian universities.

The second day of the Forum was dedicated to the issues of teaching excellence, the role of students in this process, as well as information on available online resources and digital tools that universities effectively use in their work.

The teachers of the department got acquainted with the workshops from British and Ukrainian experts of higher education with great interest:

  • Online Odyssey: from reading material to developing interactive teaching.
  • Gamification in the educational process during a pandemic.
  • Blogging as a motivational trigger for involving students in the learning process.
  • In the role of the teacher: creation of test tasks by students as a tool of active learning.

The participation of lecturers of the department in such events promotes the exchange of best practices and professional discussion of issues of improving teaching and learning in higher education in Ukraine.
