Financial literacy: a path to success for young people

On May 24, 2024, with the aim of popularizing financial literacy, expanding financial knowledge and practical skills among student youth and developing entrepreneurial skills, teamwork and self-presentation, the second round of the regional financial literacy competition “Laboratory of Youth Business ideas”.

The contest was organized by the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv Regional State Administration, the Lviv Regional Small Academy of Sciences of Pupils and the Department of Financial Management of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

Iryna Sislyuk (head of the department of preschool, general secondary education and extracurricular work of the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv Regional Military Administration), Andriy Hukalyuk (first vice-rector of the Ivan Franko National University of Ukraine), Ivanna Borodchuk (director of the ENT Department) made a welcome speech to the participants and guests of the event “Lviv Regional Small Academy of Sciences for Students’ Youth”), Andriy Stasyshyn (Dean of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management of the Ivan Franko National University) and Volodymyr Kharkhalis (Director of Agrolife Group LLC, President of the KORMIL NGO, Deputy of the Lviv Regional Council).

More than 60 students participated in the final of the competition, who formed 12 teams from educational institutions in the city of Lviv and the Lviv region.

The jury of the competition included: Head of the Department of Financial Management, Professor Nataliya Sytnyk, Professor of the Department of Financial Management, Head of the “YAK Business School” group, Methodist of the ENT Department of ENT “Lviv Oblast Small Academy of Sciences for Pupil Youth” Tetyana Perepelitsa, Associate Professor of the Department of Financial Management Victoria Dubyk and Vira Kruglyakova, professor of the Department of Financial Management Ihor Nazarkevich.

The presentation of business ideas by the participants of the competition was extremely interesting and diverse. The teams offered actual ideas in the field of green and social entrepreneurship, support of the Armed Forces. Among them are the processing of plastic waste, the production of eco-products, a shelter for animals, the reconstruction of destroyed cities, assistance to the military-industrial complex, and the use of robots. The ideas of youth entrepreneurship on the territory of educational institutions are vividly presented – the creation of a headquarters of psychological assistance to teenagers, the establishment of English-speaking, book and film clubs, a photo zone.

According to the voting results, the jury of the competition determined the winners:

1st place – team “Rixy”, project “Photozone lavender paradise” (Sokal Lyceum No. 1 named after Oleg Romaniv);

2nd place – the team “CarryThings”, the project “Robots are our future” (Lviv gymnasium “Yevshan”) and the team “Zubryka”, the project “Ekotorbinka” (Zubryan Lyceum of the Solonkiv Village Council);

III place – the team “Book Invaders”, the project “Book Events” (Lviv Gymnasium “Yevshan”), the team “Candlelove”, the project “Honey Candle” (Lviv Gymnasium “Yevshan”) and the team “Leader”, the project “KinLead” ( I-III degrees “Leader” secondary school with various forms of education).

After the presentation of business ideas with the aim of attracting the most gifted students to study at the faculty, the participants and guests of the competition had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the presentation of the educational programs “Financial Management” and “Finance, Customs and Tax Affairs” of the Department of Financial Management.

The musical gift from the students was the author’s performance of songs by Sofia Stetsik (multiple winner of all-Ukrainian and international song contests and festivals, 3rd-year student of the educational program “Finance, Customs and Tax Affairs”). At the end of the speech, the song “Oh, in the meadow is a red viburnum”, which has become an integral symbol of Ukrainian resistance against Russian aggression, was performed by all those present in the hall.

The winners of the competition were awarded certificates and gifts.

It is good that the strong partnership of the University and the Small Academy of Sciences is a platform for the growth and development of student youth for the future of Ukraine.
