EDUCATIONAL EVENT FOR THE 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF LYUBOMYR HUZAR FOR STUDENTS OF THE UFOM-11s GROUP
On March 6, 2023, the students of the UFOM-11c group and the adviser, associate professor Ludmila Petryshyn, held an educational event on the topic “It was necessary to be good – it is necessary to do good” for the 90th anniversary of the birth of Lubomyr Huzar – a Ukrainian religious and public figure, the patriarch and head of the Ukrainian Greek of the Catholic Church and the moral authority of the nation.
Students prepared presentations about the patriarch’s life, family, studies and activities. The teacher emphasized the uniqueness of Bishop Lubomir’s personality and the statements of famous people about him. In particular: “Lyubomyr Huzar brought the experience of freedom to Ukraine and became an example of a non-Soviet person, unburdened by the terrible experience of hiding his views, duplicity of conscience, atavistic avoidance of the authorities. All this was not in him, and he carried this experience of inner freedom to all of us. It is this experience for us that is his most important message”, – this is how the Cardinal of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, Archbishop Ihor Isichenko, remembers. In turn, the vice-rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University, Myroslav Marynovych, recalls the Cardinal’s words: “If you want to restore trust in society, stop trading the truth.”
During the educational hour, the students together with the teacher recalled the important theses of Lubomir Huzar about the gift of wise love, about the Motherland, about the path to democracy and trust, and noted little-known facts from his biography.
At the end of the event, the participants watched a video of the academic program “LyuboMir: Love for the World” from the crypt of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv.
