On October 14, 2022 students and teachers of the Department of Economics and Public Administration held an educational event for the Day of the Defender of Ukraine.

This year, each public holiday has a special meaning for each of us.

Since February 24, we feel the meaning of the word “DEFENDER” more than ever! Sacrifice, bravery, courage, heroism, bravery and many other words we can add to describe our defenders. But they will also be in short supply.

The Day of Defenders of Ukraine is a public holiday celebrated on October 14. It was launched on October 14, 2014, by a presidential decree entitled “Day of the Defender of Ukraine”. On July 14, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada renamed the holiday the Day of Defenders of Ukraine.

Unprecedented examples of courage and bravery shown by our fighters on the front lines of the latest Russian-Ukrainian war, hundreds of devoted lives for the Motherland needed a worthy tribute from society and the state. Every day at 9:00 a.m. we honour the memory of fallen heroes. And today we observed a moment of silence.

The date of October 14 was not chosen by chance: on this day, the Christian holiday of the Intercession of the Holy Mother of God is celebrated, and in 1999, the Day of the Ukrainian Cossacks was also established. From time immemorial, the Mother of God has been the patroness of the Ukrainian Cossacks and all Ukrainian armed forces. It was on the Feast of the Intercession in Ukraine that the Great Council was held, at which the hetman was elected and how the Cossacks would continue to live. The image of a Cossack as a Ukrainian knight and defender of his native land is close to every Ukrainian. In honour of the Intercession, many churches were built in Ukraine. One of the oldest is the Church of the Intercession in the village of Sutkivtsi, Khmelnytskyi region, built-in 1467 as a fortress. Today, this unique building is an active temple and museum at the same time.

Even today, the Ukrainian army preserves the military traditions of its ancestors, which is why the army has names with the names of legendary Ukrainian commanders and glorified formations of the past. And the slogan “Glory to Ukraine! – Glory to the heroes!” became the official greeting of the Ukrainian army.

Russia’s latest attempt to erase Ukraine’s identity and independence has failed. Ukraine will win! From February 24, 2022, almost each of us became a defender of our land.

We discussed all this after the report of the students: Maria Zakharchenko (group UFP-12c, advisor Halyna Kaplenko), Andrusechko Solomiya (group UFP-32c, advisor Andriy Tabachuk), Begey Angelina (group UFP-42c, advisor Vasyl Zelenko).

Everything will be Ukraine! Together to victory!

Thank you to our defenders!
