UNIWEEK 4.0: IN-DEPTH INTRODUCTION OF STUDENTS TO PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
From 21 to 25 October 2024, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, at the initiative of the Student Government of the University and with the assistance of the Education Department of the Development Department of the Lviv City Council, launched the career guidance programme UniWeek 4.0. This event has traditionally brought together high school and university students to learn about academic areas and features of student life.
On 22 October, 13 students from different schools of the city attended a lecture by Professor, Doctor of Economics Borys Karpinsky on ‘Management in Public Administration’. Professor Borys Karpinsky spoke about the peculiarities of management in the public sector, the differences between public and business management, emphasising the main goal of public administration – to ensure the public good and quality public services.
The lecture was followed by joint learning activities where schoolchildren and students had the opportunity to share experiences and adapt to the student environment. For example, future managers took part in a training and practical game ‘Prestige, Leadership, Remuneration in the Public Administration System’, which allowed them to deepen the knowledge gained during the lecture.
As part of UniWeek, high school students also attended the elective course Charisma, Leadership and Innovative Business, taught by Associate Professor Olga Malinovska. The participants observed the work of students from different faculties and discussed modern skills important for success in their professional activities.
On 23 October, students and schoolchildren had the opportunity to attend a Marketing class taught by Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Public Administration and Business Management Hanna Komarnytska. As part of this course, together with Natalia Paterukha, a practitioner at the Lviv Regional State Administration, they created a brief for bloggers to raise their awareness of current issues in the country. The students worked in teams, presented ideas and actively discussed marketing strategies under the guidance of fourth-year student and practicing marketer Yuriy Romanyshyn, who shared his experience and spoke about marketing trends.
On 24 October, the students attended a lecture on Civil Society delivered by Olena Reshota, Associate Professor of the Department of Public Administration. The students examined the impact of information and media on civil society and worked on a case study. Later, they joined the interactive class ‘Introduction to the profession’, where, together with other students, they took part in a quiz on the Kahoot platform and a role-playing game, acting as managers of an international company.
