Participation of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics in the career guidance initiative of the University “UniWeek” 4.0

On October 21-25, 2024, UniWeek was held at the University for the fourth time, a project within the framework of which graduates of Lviv Oblast schools became participants in the educational process at higher education institutions. Thanks to this initiative of the Student Government of LNU named after Ivan Franko and with the support of the Department of Education of the Development Department of the Lviv City Council, students had the opportunity to feel like real students and get to know the OPP “Information Technologies in Business” specialty 051 “Economics”, which is implemented at the Faculty of Finance and Business Management.

In particular, on October 22, 2024, project participants attended a laboratory class in the discipline “Digital Economy” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics Oleg YAREMA), during which they learned about the essence of globalization and the meaning of generational theory , factors influencing the formation of various business models and factors of organizational construction of business. We learned how to determine the type of business model for various market segments, taking into account the specifics of the industry (“bricks and mortar” business, “click and mortar” business, “click” business), conduct analysis and choose the appropriate pricing model when introducing an electronic business to the market. In addition, high school students came to a laboratory class in the discipline “Economics and organization of the production of software products” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, head of the department of digital economy and business analytics Iryna SHEVCHUK), where they had the opportunity, together with the students of the UFE- 31c to discuss the advantages and disadvantages for business of using each of the main monetization models of tech startups (SaaS, subscription, freemium, one-time purchases) and together pass a test to evaluate the knowledge obtained from the outlined topics in the process of team research of monetization models and execution of presentation material.

On October 23, 2024, the students attended the training course “Business analysis of IT projects” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics Iryna BORSCHUK), where they observed the process of students presenting their Business Model tasks Canvas and Context Diagram for projects and gained experience in training in specialty 051 “Economics” of the OPP “Information Technologies in Business”. In the discipline “Labor market and employment policy in the IT sphere” (teacher – senior lecturer of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics Oksana VASKIV), future applicants got acquainted with the main characteristics of the labor market in the IT sphere, its state regulation, and general trends on the IT job market of Ukraine. The young guests of the educational process were active participants in the discussion when revealing the topic “The main challenges in the recruitment market in the IT field during a full-scale war” and, together with the students of the UFE-21c group, had practical experience in the research and analysis of the survey of the company Gradus on personnel recruitment, employment of veterans war and unemployment according to official and non-official data.

On October 24, 2024, the project participants attended a laboratory class on the discipline “Operating Systems” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics Oleg YAREMA), during which they learned to create virtual machines in the guest operating room together with the students system using hypervisors Hyper V, VmWare, Parallels toolbox and Virtual box, with the help of which students of higher education were able to test such operating systems as: CentOS 7, Ubuntu, Mac OS Monterey and Android 9. communication technologies” (teacher – Ph.D., associate professor of the Department of Digital Economy and Business Analytics Oleg YAREMA) with the participation of schoolchildren, students mastered the skills of performing calculations in MS Excel, graphical presentation of data for performing financial and statistical analysis for the purpose of quantitative justification of managerial solutions

“UniWeek” is the largest career guidance project for schoolchildren, which helps to make sure in choosing a future profession for oneself and to prepare for a new stage – obtaining an education as an economist, who will also possess fundamental knowledge in the field of information technologies, economic and mathematical modeling, business analysis, modeling of business processes and will have a high awareness of the digitalization of the economy and the course of socio-economic processes in the IT industry.

At the end, the participants received personal certificates for the successful completion of the project.
