The trip of the UFF-14C group: the village of Slavske and Mount Zakhar Berkut
On October 19, 2024, students of the UFF-14C group (advisor Ulyana Vatamanyuk) of the OPP “Finance, Customs and Tax Affairs” visited the picturesque village of Slavske, Stryi district, Lviv region. Slavske is located in a sunny valley, as if in an amphitheater, at the confluence of two rivers – Opor and its tributary Slavka, at an altitude of 590-600 m above sea level. The village is surrounded by mountains on all sides. It is interesting that the name of the village comes from the river Slavko, which got its name from the heroic battle of Zakhar Berkut’s soldiers with the Tatar-Mongol horde of Batiya in 1241. These events are well described in Ivan Franko’s work “Zakhar Berkut”. Zakhar Berkut’s grave is located on top of a mountain in the village of Tukhlya near the village of Slavsky The surrounding area is shrouded in ancient tales and legends. So, nearby in the village of Svyatoslav, Prince Svyatoslav of Drevlya is buried, who died here in 1015 at the hands of his brother Svyatopolk. The second version of the name of the village is connected with the legend of Prince Svyatoslav, which comes from the word “glorious”, which was the name given to the soldiers of Prince Svyatoslav who settled here.
Students climbed Mount Zakhar Berkut. Zakhar Berkut is also the name of a famous story by Ivan Franko, which describes the events of the struggle of the Carpathian opryshkas led by Zakhar Berkut against the Mongol-Tatar invaders.
The trip turned out to be exciting, interesting and informative. It gave an opportunity not only to see the beauty of the mountains, but also to strengthen friendship, because such trips are a unique experience that opens new horizons and gives unforgettable impressions, leaving us with unforgettable memories.
