Scientific seminar of the Department of Financial Management “Economic integration within the EU: lessons for the Ukrainian economy”

On May 28, 2026, a scientific seminar “Economic integration within the EU: lessons for the Ukrainian economy” was held at the Department of Financial Management, held as part of the All-Ukrainian Science Festival – 2026. The event was devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the macroeconomic, institutional and sectoral consequences of Ukraine’s integration into the Single Market of the European Union, taking into account the experience of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The participants of the seminar considered the mechanisms of macroeconomic convergence and the conditions for fulfilling the Maastricht criteria regarding the level of inflation, the budget deficit and the state debt (Prof. Vatamanyuk-Zelinska U.Z.). Particular attention was paid to the sectoral aspects of European integration, in particular the prospects for the development of the Ukrainian ICT sector and the production sectors of the economy, as well as the importance of public administration reform for the successful completion of the negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU (assistant professor O. A. Sych).

For an in-depth study of certain aspects of European integration, the participants were grouped into small discussion groups, within which the key challenges and opportunities for the Ukrainian economy were discussed. This format of work contributed to the active exchange of scientific views, the formation of reasoned conclusions and the development of proposals for the adaptation of European experience to Ukrainian realities. A lively scientific discussion was caused by the issue of minimizing economic risks and macroeconomic imbalances that can accompany integration processes.In particular, the participants discussed challenges for the agricultural sector related to the possible reduction of export opportunities as a result of the introduction of tariff quotas in the absence of appropriate financial support mechanisms (assistant professor V.Ya. Dubyk). Of particular interest was the issue of Ukraine’s prospects for joining the Eurozone and the potential consequences of transferring monetary powers to the European Central Bank (Prof. Yu.V. Shushkova). Risks of human capital outflow due to labor migration and possible consequences of price convergence with EU countries were also considered.

The holding of the seminar contributed to the formation of new directions of scientific research by scientific and pedagogical staff of the department in the field of investment development, regulatory harmonization and macro-financial stability, and the presented analytical materials and generalized European experience will become the basis for the preparation of scientific publications, as well as for improving the content of educational components and educational and methodological support of the department.
