REVIEW LECTURE BY PROFESSOR BORYS KARPINSKYI IN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE EPP “PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT” AND THE VOCATIONAL GUIDANCE PROJECT ‘UNIWEEK’ – 5.0

The participants of the career guidance project UniWeek – 5.0, which were students of grades 10-11 at the initiative of the Student Government of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv (which involved about 350 students), attended lectures and practical classes at the University for a week, communicated with future teachers, and got acquainted with the structure of education and the functioning of academic departments. Some of the students also made a specific acquaintance with the Public Administration and Business Management program. Thus, in order to adapt and feel the educational atmosphere of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management of the University and to ensure that the choice of the future specialty in the EPP “Public Administration and Business Management” is correct, on April 10, 2025, students directly listened to a review lecture by Professor, Doctor of Economics Borys Karpinsky on “Management in Public Administration”.

It is important that both schoolchildren from the UniWeek project and students who are already studying under the Public Administration and Business Management program were invited to the lecture. Such a synthesis allowed the pupils to quickly adapt to the student body, and the students to prove themselves as leaders of the knowledge cycle in the management specialty.

In particular, the overview lecture emphasized that management in public administration is the application of management principles and methods to achieve the goals of public organizations and institutions. Thus, unlike business management, in which the priority is profit, the main goal of public management is to ensure the public good, meet the needs of citizens and systematically improve the quality of public services. The lecturer detailed and systematized a number of fundamental aspects: starting from the formation of the discipline and its place among other management subjects; requirements for management personnel, in particular, under martial law; the need for strategic development; formation of state-creating patriotism of nation and the state-creating position of managers.

In addition, the knowledge gained by both future and current students on the issue was consolidated in the educational and practical game “Image, Leadership, Need and Remuneration in the Public Administration System” adapted to modern challenges.

The effectiveness of the student initiative “UniWeek” – 5.0 and the understanding of the importance of the EPP “Public Administration and Business Management” in the system of forming competitive managers, and thus the active education of effective statesmen, is ensured by the active participation of students in the discussion of the lecture review.
