Professor Hanna Komarnytska took part in the Progressive Educators Summit 2024
Coordinator of the Progressive Island of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, Doctor of Economics, Professor, Head of the Department of Public Administration and Business Management of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management, Hanna Komarnytska took part in the Progressive Educators Summit 2024, which took place on 7-8 December in Kyiv.
The large-scale event, which brought together more than 200 educators, researchers and partners in the hall and about 300 online participants, was opened by Felix Goett, Director of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation’s Office in Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova. The Summit was moderated by Bohdan Ferens, founder and chairman of the coordinating council of the NGO Progressive, PhD in political science, lecturer and public figure.
The Summit itself included a public discussion ‘Education under threat: how to find balance and equilibrium?’ with the participation of leading experts:
– Artem SHAIPOV, USAID Justice for All Program Legal Officer, explained the mechanisms of legal and international assistance to restore educational opportunities.
– Serhiy ROMANYUK, Deputy Head of the Trade Union of Education and Science Workers of Ukraine.
– Svitlana SHYTIKOVA, Erasmus+UA project coordinator, presented the opportunities of European programmes for Ukrainian educators.
– Phil NOBLE, world expert on the use of the Internet in the public sector, and Anthony BEYMER, coordinator of the S&D Group platform of the European Parliament in Brussels, presented the free online programme World Class Scholars.
– Oleksandr KhYMENKO, Head of the Secretariat of the National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance.
– Viktor YEVDOKYMOV, Rector of the State University ‘Zhytomyr Polytechnic’.
– Alisa SUKHIKH, Deputy Head of the Council of Young Scientists at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
– Kyrylo DEMCHENKO, visitor to the Expert Council of Students of Higher Education Institutions, co-founder of the Ukrainian Student League, youth delegate of Ukraine to the UN in 2023-2024.
The two-day Summit’s agenda included discussions on the strategy for restoring education and engaging various stakeholders – educators, government officials, and international partners – in dialogue. Particular attention was paid to international cooperation, support for displaced teachers, and the expansion of the network of Progress Islands in educational institutions.
Important outcomes of the summit included:
– Signing of memorandums on the establishment of new Islands of Progress;
– Identification of specific steps to strengthen the educational community in Ukraine;
– Launching a partnership project between the NGO Progressive and the international organisation World Class Scholars.
The Summit has become a powerful platform for shaping a strategy for the development of education that not only survives the crisis, but ensures high quality education for future generations.
