Participation of the Department of Financial Management in the career orientation week “UniWeek” 4.0

On October 21, 2024, at the initiative of the Student Government of the University and with the assistance of the Department of Education of the Development Department of the Lviv City Council, the career guidance initiative “UniWeek” was once again launched at Lviv University. The Department of Financial Management of the Faculty of Finance and Business Management actively participated in the implementation of the project as part of the career guidance work. High school students of Lviv Oblast had the opportunity to visit pairs of academic disciplines taught in the educational programs “Financial Management” and “Finance, Customs and Tax Affairs” within the scope of specialty 072 “Finance, Banking, Insurance and the Stock Market”.
In particular, on October 22, the project participants attended a practical session on the discipline “Communications in financial and business management” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Financial Management N. B. Zavalnytska), during which the issues of organizing and holding business meetings and features of non-verbal communication during business communication. Together with students, students actively passed tests and participated in solving situational exercises. On the same day, high school students came to a lecture on the discipline “Creating their own business” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Financial Management D.V. Popovych), where they had the opportunity to gain knowledge about the forms and types of business financial support.
On October 23, students attended a seminar on the discipline “Money and Credit” (teacher – Doctor of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Financial Management Petyk L. O.). Future entrants took an active part in discussing the issues of the seminar, and also watched with great interest the process of defending individual tasks with the help of presentations. Also, high school students came to a seminar on the discipline “Financial Policy of Ukraine” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Financial Management N. B. Tataryn), where they got acquainted with the basic principles of the state’s customs policy. Attending a seminar by high school students on the discipline “Economics and Finances of Business Entities” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Financial Management O. Yu. Klepanchuk) provided an opportunity to gain knowledge about evaluating the effectiveness of business structures.
The students also participated in a lecture on the discipline “Investment” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, professor of the Department of Financial Management I. V. Tyazhkorob), which was held in the form of a problem lecture on the topic “Innovative form of investment”. At the beginning of the class, students were asked a problematic question about the role of innovation in the development of the country’s economy. Students expressed their opinions regarding the role of the state in regulating innovative activities, identified trends in the development of the domestic innovation investment market, formulated the priorities of innovative development in Ukraine, emphasized the use of such modern financing methods as crowdfunding, grant assistance, and gave examples of successful start-up implementation. Schoolchildren who attended the classes also showed interest in recognizing types of innovations, in particular, product, technological, marketing, environmental, etc.
On October 24, the project participants attended a lecture on the discipline “Financial Policy of Ukraine” (teacher – Doctor of Economics, Associate Professor of the Department of Financial Management N. B. Tataryn), during which they learned about the basic principles of implementing the currency policy of the state and the mechanism of currency exchange regulation of foreign economic activity. On the same day, with the participation of schoolchildren, a seminar was held on the discipline “World financial systems” (teacher – Doctor of Economic Sciences, professor of the Department of Financial Management I. V. Tyazhkorob). During the session, the issues of managing the finances of TNCs and their significance for the development of the world economy were discussed. In particular, the students of the course made reports in which the peculiarities of the organizational structure of the management of TNCs, internal and external financing of their activities, the pricing mechanism and the use of transfer prices were highlighted, and examples of the activities of TNCs in Ukraine were given. Pupils listened with interest to students’ reports on the outlined topics, tried to understand the presented information.
“UniWeek” is a career guidance and educational project, within the framework of which students of the Lviv Region can immerse themselves in student life for one week, visit couples from different academic disciplines, communicate with students and get to know future teachers, develop communication skills, make sure of choosing a future profession for themselves and to prepare for a new stage – obtaining an education in the field of finance. At the end, the participants received personal certificates for the successful completion of the project.
