On March 9, 2026, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv held a Solemn Academy dedicated to the 212th anniversary of Taras Shevchenko’s birth. The event brought together the academic community to honor the memory of the national genius. Among the attendees were students from group UFF-14 of the “Finance, Customs, and Tax Affairs” educational program, who attended the concert accompanied by their advisor, Associate Professor Olga Sych.

The program began with a ceremonial performance of “Zapovit” (The Testament) and a keynote report by the Director of the Ivan Franko Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Academician Yevhen Nakhlik, regarding the versatility and enduring relevance of Shevchenko’s genius.

The second part of the Academy was filled with poetry and music. Students from the Faculty of Culture and Arts presented dramatized readings of the Kobzar’s iconic works, including “The Ransacked Grave,” “The Kerchief,” and “To Osnovyanenko.” The profound and emotional performance allowed the audience to rediscover the philosophical depth of Shevchenko’s texts.

The musical palette of the evening was shaped by the university’s choral ensembles. The program featured choral arrangements of poems such as “The Sun is Setting” and “My Thoughts,” as well as the compositions “A Cherry Orchard by the House,” “If I Had Shoes,” “The Gray Cuckoo Sang,” and “Hey, the Eagle Soars.”

The event culminated in a powerful performance of “The Mighty Dnieper Roars and Bellows” by the combined choir of the Center for Culture and Leisure, with the entire audience joining in.
