Lecture by Professor Sebastian Gechert “The German Tax System: Structure, Revenues and Distribution” within the framework of the international project “Education Bridge Chemnitz-Lviv 4.0”

On March 12, 2025, an open lecture was held at the Faculty of Finance and Business Management, organized by the Department of Financial Management with the assistance of the Department of International Relations for applicants of the OPP “Finance, Customs and Taxation”. The event was held within the framework of the international educational project “Education Bridge Chemnitz-Lviv 4.0”, created by the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the Technical University of Chemnitz (Germany). The lecturer was Professor Sebastian Gehert, Head of the Department of Macroeconomics at the Technical University of Chemnitz, who discussed the topic “The German Tax System: Structure, Revenue and Distribution”.

Students, teachers and other participants of the event had the opportunity to get acquainted in detail with the development of the German tax system, the definition of the total tax burden and its components. Professor Gehert also spoke about the distribution of the tax burden depending on the income level of German citizens and about the current challenges facing the tax systems of the European Union countries.

During the question and answer session, Professor Gehert provided comprehensive answers to questions regarding the overall tax burden and its connection with the shadow economy, the principle of tax fairness and tax competition in territorial communities. The lecture was accompanied by an informative presentation with comparative statistical data.

This joint event is a continuation of many years of cooperation between the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv and the Chemnitz University of Technology, which includes open lectures, scientific seminars, internships for teachers and students in Chemnitz. Thanks to the support of Professor Gehert and his colleagues from the Chemnitz University of Technology, the Department of Financial Management is actively working on improving curricula and modernizing educational courses.
