Many significant dates fall in November, among them – November 17 – International Student’s Day, which is celebrated annually all over the world. After all, students have always been considered one of the most progressive social groups of all time. Their courage and willingness to constantly implement innovative ideas, as well as the desire for true ideals of freedom, have repeatedly become a role model, inspiring others and serving as an example for future generations. That is why the UFO-11s group held an educational hour dedicated to this date. At the educational hour, first-year students, together with their advisor, Lyudmila Petryshyn, recalled the facts that gave rise to this holiday. Since this day commemorates the events that took place in the former Czechoslovakia, occupied by the Nazis. In particular, on November 17, 1939, German troops surrounded student dormitories in Prague and other Czech cities. About 1,200 students and teachers were detained. They were sent to concentration camps, and nine leaders of student protests were executed. Moreover, a decision was made to close Czech universities for three years, and their property was subject to confiscation. Universities reopened much later, only after the final victory of the anti-Hitler coalition forces in World War II.

The International Council of Students at its meeting in London in 1941 decided to declare November 17 International Student Day – in memory of the tragic events in the Czech Republic.
Initially, the holiday was celebrated as a day of student solidarity and multiculturalism of universities, but later it acquired a more general meaning. Its constant attributes were parties and entertainment celebrations. Students of UFO-11s gave examples of celebrations of this day in different countries.
The students also drew parallels with the celebration of this holiday in Ukraine and emphasized that it was officially launched in our country in 1999. They also recalled the activity of students in the Revolution on Granite, in the Orange Revolution and the Maidan events in 2013-2014. They separately highlighted the patriotism of student youth in Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine. Today, Student Day in Ukraine is considered a holiday of youth and student activity! So we wish all students vigor, enthusiasm, health, success and ups in their studies and lives.
