On October 1, the advisor of group UFFM-23s, Ulyana Hrudzevych, held an educational event dedicated to the Day of Defenders of Ukraine.

October 1 is a day of special significance for Ukrainians. It combines the Feast of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, the Day of Ukrainian Cossacks, the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, and the Day of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA).

On this day, it is important to honor the memory of all those who, at different times, defended our land from the enemy. As Taras Shevchenko once said: “In your own house – your own strength and truth, and freedom,” therefore we must respect those whose sacred duty is to defend their home and their truth with their strength and their will.

The Day of Defenders of Ukraine was established by the Presidential Decree of October 14, 2014 under the name “Defender of Ukraine Day.” Since 2015, it has been recognized as a public holiday. Later, it was renamed to the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, ensuring a gender-balanced recognition of the role of military personnel in defending our country and honoring both men and women in service. Today, many women, alongside men, protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. As of January 1, 2025, about 70,000 women serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Students also learned that for the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, Ukrposhta issues a commemorative stamp, while the National Bank of Ukraine releases a commemorative coin. This year, the stamp belongs to the series “Awards of Ukraine” – the “Defender of the Fatherland” medal, and the commemorative coin is dedicated to the “Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.”

In addition, the students joined in fundraising efforts to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
