ART DURING THE WAR

War is always destruction, destruction, death. Culture, art is creation, life. In times of war, in understanding the great importance of art for society, people and the state, they talk about national art. Maria Prymachenko is precisely the vivid personification of our Ukrainian artist, whose works are known far beyond the borders of our country. That is why the exhibition project “Giving to Ukraine!” was of great interest to the students of the UFF-35s group of the Faculty of Financial Management and Business of the educational program “Finance, Customs and Tax Affairs” (advisor D. V. Popovych) in the Andrey Sheptytskyi National Museum, dedicated to the work of Maria Prymachenko.
The exhibition included about one hundred works of the artist from the collection of Kyiv art critic, academician Eduard Dymshits. The researcher has been collecting them for the past thirty years. Most of the exhibited compositions represent the late period of the artist’s work, the last decade of her life.
The origins of Ukrainian pictorial and poetic folklore are combined in the work of Maria Prymachenko. The artist has developed her own artistic style, which is characterized by: bright, harmoniously balanced coloring of the works, a variety of compositional solutions, rich ornamentation – plant and geometric, plot variety. Mystkina often resorted to allegories, endowing animals with human features. The author also complemented her works with original text signatures that are organically connected to the pictures.
Visiting the exhibition allowed students not only to immerse themselves in the fantastic world of amazing creatures, animals, birds, flowers, but also to learn more about the life and work of Maria Prymachenko, who this year (August 20, 2022, posthumously) was awarded the award of the President of Ukraine “National Legend of Ukraine » for remarkable personal merits in the formation of independent Ukraine and strengthening of its statehood, protection of the Motherland and service to the Ukrainian people, significant contribution to the development of national education, art, sports, health care, as well as many years of fruitful public activity.
