Academic staff of the Department of Public Administration and Business Management took part in an important expert discussion

On 10 October, an online expert discussion on ‘Reforms in the field of transparency and public participation. What do the Laws of Ukraine ‘On Ensuring Transparency of Local Self-Government’ and ‘On Democracy at the Level of Local Self-Government’ change for local self-government?’. The event was attended by representatives of the Department of Public Administration and Business Management, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Head of the Department of Public Administration and Business Management Hanna Komarnytska and Deputy Head of the Department, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Associate Professor Olena Gerasymenko.

Participation in such events is of great importance for the academic staff of the department. It allows them to obtain relevant and high-quality information that will be used in the educational process to improve the educational components of the educational and professional programme ‘Public Administration and Business Management’.

During the discussion, important changes in Ukrainian legislation on local self-government were discussed. In particular, the following were discussed:

The Law of Ukraine 3590-IX ‘On Ensuring Transparency of Local Self-Government’, which has already entered into force and is being actively implemented at the local level.

The Law of Ukraine ‘On Democracy at the Levels of Local Self-Government’, which is awaiting the signature of the President of Ukraine.

Experts discussed how these laws will affect the mechanisms of local democracy and improve the openness and transparency of local government. Particular attention was paid to approaches to implementing the new norms in local decisions and practice.

Iryna Haiduchyk, regional coordinator of the UPLAN Network in Volyn and Rivne regions, executive director of the Volyn Institute of Law

The participation of our professors in this discussion emphasises the importance of continuous professional development and updating of knowledge in the field of public administration, especially in the context of ongoing reforms. The information received will be integrated into the training courses, which will allow students to obtain the most up-to-date knowledge about the processes of decentralisation and local self-government development in Ukraine.
