Oleksandr Bitter

Research interests

Rural population’s living standards, rural social problems, rural development, agricultural production efficiency, pricing in the agro-food market, international comparisons. He takes an active part in the work of various scientific conferences held by the universities of the country. The author of 160 scientific works, including 15 monographs, of which 2 are self-contained. Under his scientific guidance, 13 dissertation papers were defended for the degree of a candidate of economic sciences.


From December 1985 till September 2008 – postgraduate student, assistant professor, associate professor of the Department of Statistics and Analysis of Lviv National Agrarian University. In 1989 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on the topic: “Social infrastructure of the village and the ways of its development”, in 2008 – a doctoral dissertation on the theme “Development of agriculture and living standards of rural population of the Carpathian region”.

During 1992-1994 and 2006-2007 he was Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Economics of the Lviv National Agrarian University for scientific work. In 2007 – 2010 – the Scientific Secretary of the Specialized Academic Council D 36.814.02 – Economics and Management of Enterprises – for the protection of doctoral dissertations at the Lviv National Agrarian University.

In September 2008, he was elected Head of the Department of International Economics and Management of Foreign Economic Activity of Lviv National Agrarian University, in September 2010 – Head of the Department of International Economics and Finance Theory of the Lviv State Financial Academy. At the same time, in 2010-2012 he worked as an extraordinary professor at the Krakow Agricultural University (Republic of Poland). In August 2015, he was transferred to the position of Head of the Department of International Economics and Finance Theory of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

He was awarded the distinction of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine “Excellence in Agrarian Education and Science”.
