The “Strategic Management in Finance” course is a normative discipline for the “Finance, Banking, Insurance, and Stock Market” specialty and the “Finance, Banking and Insurance” educational program. It is taught in the 1st semester and is a 3-credit course (ECTS).

The course aims to provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to formulate strategies for financial institutions. Students will master specific methodological tools for long-term forecasting, planning, and analysis under conditions of uncertainty and risk. The course is an integral part of the cycle of economic disciplines necessary for managers and employees of economic departments in enterprises, financial institutions, and organizations, regardless of their ownership or legal form.

The purpose of the course is to systematically build students’ knowledge of the theoretical and methodological foundations related to the essence and features of strategic management in enterprises, banks, insurance companies, and other financial institutions. It also aims to develop the skills and abilities to use the methodological apparatus for developing an enterprise’s strategic plan and providing organizational support for its implementation.

The main learning objectives are to:

  • Study the basics of management theory at the level necessary for mastering specialized disciplines.
  • Become familiar with the fundamentals of strategic management theory and the concept of strategy development.
  • Analyze modern concepts for organizing and implementing strategic plans at various levels.
  • Identify the most common and new approaches to analyzing an organization’s environment, methods for determining its competitiveness, and methods for strategic analysis and forecasting the development of the internal and external environment.
  • Determine the principles for formulating an enterprise’s goals and mission, and become familiar with models and methods for developing a strategic set.
  • Substantiate the need for developing strategic and tactical plans, projects, and programs as tools for implementing strategies. The course also covers determining the main directions of strategic changes and monitoring their implementation.
