The “Risk Management in a Bank” is a normative course for the “Finance, Banking, Insurance, and Stock Market” specialty and the “Finance, Banking and Insurance” educational program. It is taught in the 1st semester and is a 4-credit course (ECTS).

The academic course aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to manage risks in banking. This includes the theoretical, organizational, legal, and practical aspects of managing relationships and risk factors that arise from the accumulation and placement of funds, and the maintenance of adequate capitalization, profitability, liquidity, and overall risk in a bank’s activities.

The primary goal of this course is for students to assimilate the theoretical knowledge and professional competencies required to organize and operate a system for managing financial and functional risks within a bank.

The main learning objectives are to:

  • Provide students with knowledge of the essence and evolution of risks in banking activities, their types, and their impact on a bank’s profitability and capitalization.
  • Develop a systematic understanding of the theoretical, organizational, and legal foundations for forming and operating a risk management system in a bank, both in Ukraine and according to international standards.
  • Teach students how to evaluate and analyze credit, market, operational, strategic, reputational, and liquidity risks. It also aims to develop their skills in applying risk management principles and forming internal bank procedures for managing financial and functional risks.
  • Deepen the general professional preparation of students.
