The ” International payments and currency transactions” is a normative course for the “Finance, Banking, Insurance, and Stock Market” specialty and the “Finance, Banking and Insurance” educational program. It is taught in the 2nd semester and is a 4-credit course (ECTS).

The course aims to provide students with a system of knowledge that will enable future specialists to acquire the scientific, theoretical, and methodological basis for implementing foreign exchange operations and international settlements in foreign economic activity. It covers various forms and methods of payments, as well as the application of currency risk management methods.

The primary goal of this academic discipline is to provide students with theoretical knowledge and professional competencies related to the principles of organizing international settlements, the functioning of the currency system and currency markets, and the conduct of currency transactions.

The main learning objectives are to:

  • Acquire theoretical knowledge on the organization and conduct of international settlements and currency transactions, including currency accounts, currency markets, and transaction types.
  • Develop a systematic understanding of the requirements for executing and ensuring the implementation of foreign economic contracts.

 

  • Provide an understanding of the forms and methods of international payments, including the use of documentary and non-documentary payment forms and international bank guarantees.
  • Gain knowledge about the specifics of crediting foreign trade contracts.
  • Develop skills for assessing and analyzing currency risks in international settlements and currency transactions, and for determining ways to minimize them.
  • Enable students to master the methodology for analyzing alternative methods of international borrowing to finance international settlements.
  • Acquire knowledge of the regulatory and legal acts, provisions, and instructions from bodies like the NBU (National Bank of Ukraine), banks, and international financial institutions in the field of currency legislation.
