The discipline “Global Financial Systems” is an elective discipline in the specialty “Finance, Banking, Insurance and Stock Market” for the educational program “Finance, Customs and Taxation”, which is taught in 3 semesters in the amount of 120 hours (4 credits according to the European Credit Transfer System ECTS).

The purpose of studying the discipline “Global Financial Systems” is to form in higher education applicants systemic knowledge, analytical thinking in the context of the financial sphere of the functioning of the world financial system, regarding the mechanisms and tools for decision-making in the currency, credit and investment spheres at the micro- and macroeconomic levels.

The objectives of the discipline are:

• understanding the architecture of global finance: studying the structure and functions of key elements, such as international monetary
systems (from the Gold Standard to the modern Jamaican system);

• analysis of the activities of international financial organizations: study of the role of the IMF, the World Bank, the Bank for International Settlements and their impact on national economies;

• study of currency markets and mechanisms: mastering the principles of exchange rate formation, currency quotation regimes and methods of currency risk management;

• analysis of global capital markets: study of the functioning of international stock, bond and derivative markets, as well as the activities of transnational banks;

• study of financial globalization and integration: analysis of the processes of merging national markets into a single system and study of the causes of global financial crises;

• assessment of state and international regulation: study of standards (for example, Basel III/IV) and central bank policies in the context of the stability of the global financial system.
